At A Fork In The Road Of History
Today I am a sulfur-headed match, waiting for a spark, impassioned with feelings about the state of affairs facing our country today. Every day the news reports about the follies of our current Executive Branch bring a heavier and heavier toll to my American heart. I'm afraid that I am losing all sight of their respect for the values I hold dear as a citizen of the country I have been proud to call my own.
My father's fathers landed on New England's shores in earliest days of American colonial settlement. Our history is filled with many mistakes and poor judgments. But I also believe that the arc of history bends towards justice. Today, I sincerely believe that we are careening down a path that will prove to have been on the wrong side of history. And I grieve because of it.
I respectfully ask that all who agree reach deep and summon the courage to use all the powers at their disposal to correct our current course. From our elected officials at the podiums of power, to the teacup storms in kitchen table conversations, we need to rise and take back the republic for which we will stand.
Out of Iraq. Off the oil. Bury the sabers and silence the drums of war. Deliver us from the ruination our home in the galaxy. Reestablish the dignity of our differences without judgment. Dare to envision what we can accomplish with the over-sized brains given us by our creator.
Our leaders rule only by the consent of the governed. I do not consent. And I fear for the future of my children unless we summon the courage now to fight the errant angels of our nature.
Now what?
